Biogeologie

Welcome to the website of the biogeology workgroup of Prof. Hervé Bocherens!

As biogeologists, we see ourselves as paleontologists who use a broad variety of techniques to study the ecology and evolution of organisms and ecosystems.

Prof. Hervé Bocherens, the leader of the workgroup, primarily uses stable isotope chemistry of bones and teeth to investigate dietary preferences and the paleoenvironment of Cenozoic fossil remains from terrestrial vertebrate paleontological and anthropological sites.

Dr. Dorothée Drucker is also interested in stable isotope geochemistry of Late Pleistocene and Holocene teeth and bones with a focus on environmental influences to the geochemistry of deer bone and the evolution of human diet.

Dr. Walter Joyce is interested in the origin, evolution, and paleoecology of turtles. Currently he is actively collaborating with Tyler Lyson on reviewing the alpha taxonomy of Late Cretaceous to Paleogene North American fossil turtles in an effort to rigorously assess the response of turtles to the K/T extinction event.
